Based out of USA Cycling’s European High-Performance Center in Sittard, Netherlands, the Junior and U23 Men’s Road Program competes internationally in the highest level of UCI racing, including UCI Nations Cup, as well as UCI 1.1, 2.1 and National Calendar events in Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Czechia, South Korea, and Canada.

Athletes that are selected to represent the National Team at these events have qualified through our pathway of regional talent ID camps, domestic amateur and collegiate race results. The USA Cycling Foundation proudly supports this development path ensuring that American athletes are able to develop at the same rate as their international peers.

Development Pathway

Junior support begins at the local and regional level where opportunities are provided through training, racing and education.  Riders are invited to regional development and national development camps. Riders may then be invited to join the National Team to compete in the European events and Nations Cups. Riders over the age of 18 may qualify for the same USA Cycling programming in the Under-23 category.

  • Regional Talent ID Camps
  • Identification of talent through current camp system
  • Tour de l’Abitibi and Tour of Ireland team rosters created through the RTIDC system identify more athletes
  • European Racing Opportunities.
  • Nations Cup race blocks for our top internationally capable athletes
  • Enhanced number of race days and experiences for 15-20 unique athletes
  • 15/16 EU race camps provide introduction to EU racing for 5-11 unique athletes
  • Further development of race craft through increased racing opportunities and focused race skills coaching - U23

Building Champions

  • Juniors typically race more than one cycling discipline during their formative development years

  • The endurance training and depth of road athletes creates good opportunities in these additional disciplines. The number of medals won by road cyclists in other disciplines continues to grow
  • U23 riders are crossing over to Olympic track disciplines regularly
  • USA Cycling will continue to offer the well-trained road cyclist multiple opportunities on the World and Olympic stage
